Control Microsoft Edge Safe Hosting Extension (deprecated)

DEPRECATED: This policy is deprecated. It is currently supported but will become obsolete in a future release.

Supported versions

  • Windows: ≥ 145
  • macOS: ≥ 145
  • Android: Not supported
  • iOS: Not supported

Description

Starting in Microsoft Edge version 158, this policy is deprecated and will become obsolete in Microsoft Edge version 164. The Microsoft Edge Safe Hosting extension is being retired because the Microsoft services that required it no longer depend on it. The browser no longer installs the extension automatically, and removes any existing automatically installed copy, regardless of how this policy is configured. No replacement policy is needed, and you don't need to take any action.

This policy previously controlled whether the Microsoft Edge Safe Hosting component extension was installed automatically when users visited supported Microsoft services, such as Microsoft 365 Copilot app.

Note: This policy never affected whether users can manually install extensions from the Microsoft Edge Add-ons website.
