Keep your data safe while using Copilot Chat

While using AI, keeping enterprise data safe is essential. Microsoft ensures this through Enterprise Data Protection (EDP), a set of security and privacy controls designed to safeguard your data.

What is Enterprise Data Protection (EDP)?

Enterprise Data Protection (EDP) ensures that your organization's data is secure, private, and compliant when using Microsoft 365 services, including Microsoft Copilot Chat (Basic). These protections are governed by Microsoft's Data Protection Addendum (DPA) and Product Terms, which outline the commitments to safeguard customer data.

How Microsoft Copilot Chat (Basic) keeps your data safe

Microsoft Copilot Chat (Basic) keeps your data secure with built-in safeguards that align with your organization's security policies. It inherits your existing Microsoft 365 security and compliance settings, ensuring only authorized users can access generated content. Key protections include:

  • Encryption & Data Isolation – Protects data at rest and in transit.
  • Privacy by Design – Your data remains private and is not used to train AI models.
  • Access Controls – Copilot respects your organization’s permissions, sensitivity labels, and retention policies.
  • Regional Compliance – Data stays within your geographical region, following Microsoft’s processing commitments.

Delete your conversation history

You're always in control of your own data. If you want to clear your Copilot Chat (Basic) history entirely, use the My Account Portal:

  1. Sign in to the My Account Portal with the Microsoft account linked to Copilot.
  2. Navigate to Copilot app activity history.
  3. Select Delete all activity history to remove all Copilot conversations across your devices.
  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Important

Once deleted, your conversations can't be restored, and deleting your history doesn't affect your organization's usage reports. If you shared a conversation link with someone, they can still access it even after you delete your history.
