Deadline randomization for application deployment

I know there is a client setting Disable deadline randomization, if I set it to No, the clients use an activation delay of up to two hours to install required software updates. But the setting doesn't apply to applications.

My question is:

Is there any method to set such deadline randomization for application deployment?

The “Disable deadline randomization” setting in Configuration Manager applies to software updates1. When this setting is disabled (set to No), the clients use an activation delay of up to two hours to install required software updates. This randomization reduces the potential impact of clients in the collection installing updates in the deployment at the same time.

However, this setting does not apply to application deployments. So up to 2021, there isn’t a built-in feature in Configuration Manager to set deadline randomization specifically for application deployments. The deployment of applications in SCCM is typically controlled by the available and deadline times that you set during the deployment process.

I was surprised by both answers - but I found them totally correct.

    1. "Disable Deadline Randomization" applies only for Software Updates deployments. It applies for Deadline trigger.
    2. Activation (available schedule) trigger is randomized for both Applications and Updates (1->120 minutes forward).
    3. The deadline trigger is not randomized by default besides of point 1.

    Hi, @Richard Sindler

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

There is no method to set deadline randomization for application deployment. The client setting "Disable deadline randomization" only applies to software updates and not to applications. The default behavior for application deployment is to install the application as soon as possible after the installation deadline.

If you want to delay enforcement of the application deployment according to user preferences, you can enable the option to "Delay enforcement of this deployment according to user preferences, up to the grace period defined in client settings" and define an enforcement grace period.
