When opening any website in edge it will take a few minutes to load. After looking at the dev tools we will get nothing going through on the network tab, then after a bit everything will go through an work just fine.

We have tried clearing cache and disabling extensions, to no avail. This issue started about a month ago, then an edge update came out and fixed it for some machines, then this latest edge update seems to have the same issue. This issue does not affect every machine and seems random. We've done everything shy of reinstalling windows to troubleshoot the issue.

If you use an edge private windows issue does not occur.

If you have any solutions or troubleshooting steps please let me know.

Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:

    netsh winhttp reset proxy

    netsh winhttp set proxy direct

Then disable WPAD at the system level:

    • Open Internet Options
    • Go to Connections → LAN settings
    • UNCHECK:
      Automatically detect settings
    • OK → Reboot

    Test again.

Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:

    netsh winhttp show proxy

If anything is set → that’s likely the stall.

    Temporary test fix

    netsh winhttp reset proxy

    Reboot and test Edge.

Try to disable Edge Sync at the ENGINE level (not UI)

Even when Sync is disabled in settings, the engine still initializes.

    Steps

    • Close Edge
    • Open Registry Editor
    • Navigate to:
      HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
    • Create or set:
      SyncDisabled (DWORD) = 1
    • Reboot

InPrivate never initializes sync or identity tokens. Normal mode does and it can hang indefinitely.

Thanks for sharing the details! Try to disable Edge “Secure DNS” (Major culprit)

Recent Edge builds changed DNS behavior. If Secure DNS negotiation stalls, Edge waits silently before sending any request — exactly what you’re seeing.

    Steps

    • Open Edge
    • Go to:
      edge://settings/privacy
    • Scroll to Security
    • Turn OFF: Use secure DNS
    • Fully close Edge (end task if needed)
    • Reopen and test

Secure DNS attempts DoH negotiation before network requests. If the resolver or firewall blocks it, Edge waits several minutes.

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with Microsoft Edge where websites take a long time to load, and this seems to be inconsistent across different machines. Since you've already tried clearing the cache and disabling extensions without success, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you might consider:

    1. Check for Conflicting Software: Sometimes, other software on your system, such as security software or VPNs, can interfere with network requests. Try temporarily disabling these to see if it resolves the issue.
    2. Network Settings: Ensure that your network settings are correctly configured. You might want to reset your network settings to default.
    3. Test with a New User Profile: Create a new user profile in Edge to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is related to your current profile settings.
    4. Use Edge in Safe Mode: If the issue does not occur in private browsing mode, it could be related to your settings or extensions. Try starting Edge in a clean state to see if the problem persists.
    5. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is fully updated, as updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.
    6. Reinstall Edge: If all else fails, consider reinstalling Microsoft Edge. This can help if there are corrupted files causing the issue.

If the problem continues, you might want to report it to Microsoft support, especially since it seems to have started after a recent update. They may have more specific insights or fixes based on the version you are using.
