Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

This issue occurs when unnecessary services are running in the background that are causing the Microsoft Edge to hang, or there is a corrupted system file on the PC, to sort out the issue, kindly follow the steps below:

    Method 1. Repair Microsoft Edge

Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features

Scroll down and click Microsoft Edge > Click Modify, then follow the prompt to repair.

Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

Method 2. Do a clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
    • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
    • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
    • Close Task Manager.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

If the latest update of Microsoft Edge is causing your computer to slow down and hang, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Restart Your Computer: A simple restart can clear temporary states that may be causing issues.
    2. Close Edge and Related Applications: Ensure that no Edge or Edge WebView2-based applications are running, as they might lock files needed for updates or performance.
    3. Check for Available Disk Space: Make sure you have sufficient disk space (at least 1-2 GB) on your system drive, as insufficient space can cause performance issues.
    4. Run Edge as Administrator: Right-click on the Edge icon and select "Run as administrator" to ensure it has the necessary permissions.
    5. Disable Third-Party Security Software: If applicable, temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or endpoint protection software, as they might interfere with Edge's performance. Remember to re-enable it after testing.
    6. Check for Edge Updates: Ensure that you are running the latest version of Edge. Sometimes, subsequent updates can fix performance issues.
    7. Reinstall Edge: If the problem persists, consider reinstalling Edge. You can download the installer from the official Microsoft website and run it to repair the installation.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to reach out to Microsoft Support for further assistance.
