Controlling settings, permissions, and membership within Teams and channels
Hi Antonio,
Good day, and thank you for providing a clear description of your requirement.
From your description, I understand that you are looking for a way to add multiple guest users with external email addresses to a Microsoft Teams channel in bulk.
Before proceeding, it is important to note that the process differs depending on the type of channel:
- For standard channels, Microsoft Teams does not support adding users directly to a channel. Membership is inherited automatically from the parent Team.
- For private channels, guest users must first be added as members of the Team and can then be added separately to the private channel membership.
With regard to your concern, I conducted a test on my end and found that when adding guests directly through Teams, you need to enter each email address or name individually. While this approach works, it can be quite time-consuming when you need to add a large number of members. Based on my findings, there does not appear to be a built-in Teams feature that allows guest users to be bulk added directly through the Teams interface.
As a possible workaround, you may wish to ask your IT administrator to create a team from Microsoft 365 admin center by:
- Go to Teams & groups > Active teams & groups > Add a team
- Add the intended guest users to that group during the setup process.
Please note that the guest users will first need to be added to your tenant before they can be added to the group. For reference:
- Bulk invite B2B guest users using a CSV file: Bulk invite B2B users - Microsoft Entra External ID | Microsoft Learn
- Bulk invite guest users using PowerShell: Tutorial for bulk inviting B2B collaboration users - Microsoft Entra External ID | Microsoft Learn
This can help avoid adding the guests individually after the team has been created, as the team will be provisioned with the specified members already included. Please note, however, that the administrator may still need to add the guest users to the group individually.
I understand that this may be inconvenient, and I agree that the ability to add members in bulk would be a valuable enhancement. I believe many other organizations that collaborate with external users would benefit from this capability as well. Therefore, I would encourage you to submit this suggestion through the Microsoft Teams · Community so that the product team can consider it for future improvements.
Just a quick note as well: this is a user‑to‑user support forum. Moderators here, including myself, are regular users too and don’t have the ability to change or influence Microsoft product features or design decisions. What we can do is share findings, observed behaviors, and practical tips based on experience and available information.
If you decide to submit feedback and are comfortable doing so, feel free to share the link here in the comments. I’d be glad to upvote it to help increase its visibility.
Additionally, as many other users may be experiencing a similar limitation but may not know where to share their feedback, if you find this response helpful in clarifying the current behavior and identifying a possible path forward, you may consider upvoting it. Doing so may help increase the visibility of this discussion, making it easier for other community members facing the same situation to find, support, and contribute to the feedback.
I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to share any additional details if you need further assistance.
Thank you again for your time and for raising this important usability concern.
