Computer will not boot into Windows 10, how can I resolve this and keep my personal files?

On June 29, 2026, I asked the same question except I have added "and keep my personal files"? The only response was to do it in a way that would delete my personal files which is unacceptable.

My backup computer will not boot into Windows 10 so it starts an Automatic Repair. After an Automatic Repair, it says, "Automatic Repair could not repair your PC." If I click on Advanced Options, I get several options and if I click on Troubleshoot, I get an option to Reset this PC. A text box is shown where I can enter a password. The trouble is although I have entered the password more than once which is the password for the gmail account that is shown, it keeps saying that the password is incorrect when it matches my password stored on my other computer!

How can I Reset my Windows 10 computer? Can I make a Repair USB? If so, how can I do it? I do have a working computer running Windows 11.

I request help without further delay.

I created a USB recovery drive but I have a question how to use it. After booting into Windows 10, Automatic Repair runs and then I am given options for further repair, I get a screen that says, "Use a device." On the screen it has five options:

    • UEFI: USB
    • UEFI: Built in EFI Shell
    • CD/DVD Drive
    • Hard Drive
    • USB Key

I plugged the USB Recovery Drive into a port on the Windows 10 computer and clicked on UEFI: USB but it did not find the USB Recovery Drive. At this time, I have not changed the boot options so it still initially boots from the Windows 10 Hard drive first. See Boot Settings below.BIOS Screen, Boot Options, 8-5-2026

If all recovery options in the recovery environment are failing to resolve the problem or you are blocked by a password, you can create a bootable Windows 10 USB on another working PC and boot your PC from that, then rather than installing Windows 10, select ‘Repair this Computer’ that will give you access to the Recovery Environment from there

In the Recovery Environment on the USB, you will not be blocked by a password, the only option that will not be available is the reset option on the USB recovery environment.

    Click this link:  https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool.

Then, boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created.
