Can Microsoft Teams Personal be configured to reject unsolicited Message Requests from unknown users?

I use both Microsoft Teams for work and Microsoft Teams Personal.

In Teams Personal, I receive numerous unsolicited Message Requests each week from unknown accounts that appear to be phishing attempts or other forms of social engineering.

I can block each sender individually after the request arrives, but I have been unable to find a setting that will:

  • Automatically reject Message Requests from unknown users.
  • Only allow Message Requests from my contacts.
  • Disable unsolicited Message Requests entirely.

Microsoft Support has advised me that this capability is not currently available for Teams Personal, although similar controls exist for organizational Teams through administrator policies.

Can anyone from Microsoft or the community confirm that this is indeed the current behavior? If there is a setting that I have overlooked, I would be grateful if someone could point me to it. Thanks!

That is correct. Teams for personal doesn’t have all the features Teams for business has.

This is what I do to reduce these messages. Go to settings> privacy > manage how people can find you. Turn off the options there. It does help in my case.
