How to use Teams or M365 to make domestic and international phone calls

Hello,

Our company uses the Microsoft E5 version for users, and currently we do not have any fixed-line telephone services from domestic ISPs.

Could you please tell me how to use Teams or M365 to make domestic and international calls?

Are there any cloud services available in China that can provide this service?

Thanks

    Hi @Foster Amy

If your Microsoft 365 E5 licensing includes Teams Phone, Teams can be used as a cloud phone system. However, Teams alone cannot call regular mobile or landline numbers. You still need PSTN connectivity from a supported provider.

For your scenario in China, the main options to investigate are Operator Connect and Direct Routing.

    • Operator Connect allows a certified telecom operator to provide the PSTN service and telephone numbers, while the operator manages the PSTN infrastructure.
    • Direct Routing allows you to use a third-party PSTN operator and connect it to Teams through a supported Session Border Controller (SBC).

Therefore, you could look for a China-based telecom/cloud voice provider that supports Microsoft Teams Phone Direct Routing or Operator Connect and ask whether they can provide mainland-China numbers and domestic/international calling.

You can read more at PSTN connectivity options for Microsoft Teams

You can also use the Microsoft Operator Connect directory from that documentation to check whether an operator serving your required country/region is available.

I hope this information is helpful.
