Question

We would like to hide or disable the Files tab displayed on a user's profile card in Microsoft 365 Org Explorer.

We understand that the Files tab only shows documents that the viewing user already has permission to access, so this is not a question about bypassing SharePoint or OneDrive permissions.

Our concern is about discoverability and unintended exposure through the UI.

For example, a user may have access to a document because of an old sharing link, broad SharePoint permissions, Teams membership, or another existing permission that they are not normally aware of. The Files tab can make such documents much easier to discover simply by browsing another user's profile.

From an information governance perspective, we would therefore prefer to disable this feature.

Is there any supported administrative method to hide or disable the Files tab, either:

  • tenant-wide,
  • for specific users or groups, or
  • through Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Microsoft Graph, or another policy/configuration?

We are specifically asking about the standard Microsoft 365 profile card / Org Explorer experience, not a custom application using Microsoft Graph Toolkit.

If this is currently not configurable, is there any roadmap item or recommended channel for submitting this as a feature request?

Thank you.

Dear @KawamuraNaohiro,

Based on your description, there is currently no supported administrative method to hide or disable the Files tab in the standard Microsoft 365 profile card or Org Explorer experience. Microsoft's profile card customization capabilities are limited to profile attributes and contact information, and do not provide controls to remove built-in tabs such as Files

This means there is currently no documented option to disable the Files tab:

Tenant-wide

For specific users or groups

Via Microsoft 365 admin settings

Via SharePoint Online settings

Via Microsoft Graph profile card customization

If this functionality would be valuable for your organization, I recommended approach is to submit feedback through the Microsoft Feedback Portal or the feedback options available in the Microsoft 365 admin center. The product team is in charge of the site, and they constantly check customer reviews and feedback. the higher votes, the more attention the related team will pay on and a lot of the features are developed and improved based on customer feedback.

I hope information above meet your expectations, please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
