I recommend visiting your computer manufacturer's official support website and downloading the latest BIOS update available for your specific model. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully when installing the BIOS update.
HP Inc extension 1.0.0.5 failed 0x802040034
I've trying to update my computer to 22H2 update for months now, but it keeps failing. I've tried sfc /scannow, clearing my SoftwareDistribution folder folder, and using DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. Also tried using the Windows Update troubleshoot and it detects nothing wrong. I've Installed the Windows 10 Update Assistant, but that also doesn't work. I've used wushohide to hide the Hp Inc extension 1.0.0.5 that keeps on failing, but it tells be there is nothing to find. I've downloaded the Windows Update MiniTool and I can see the Hp Inc Extension failed three times in the update history, but never shows up in the Windows Update, so I can Hide it. All my drivers are up to date. Currently my computer is running on version 1903.

Since you're currently running Windows 10 version 1903, you may need to perform a clean installation of Windows 10 22H2 if the upgrade continues to fail.
However, before doing that, I recommend trying a Repair Install (in-place upgrade) using Windows 10 22H2 installation media. This should upgrade your current installation to 22H2 while keeping your personal files, apps, and settings.
If the in-place upgrade also fails, a clean installation may be necessary.
Few things to check
- Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting
- Disable or uninstall any third-party antivirus program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade
Download the media creation tool (Click Download tool now) and save it to your computer.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Open the tool and select Upgrade this PC now.
Make sure to select Keep personal files and apps.
It might take some time to reinstall Windows 10. Your computer will restart a few times, make sure you don’t turn off your PC

sfc /scannow, DISM, SoftwareDistribution cleanup, the Windows Update troubleshooter, and Update Assistant were already tried, the next supported path is to focus on broader Windows Update repair steps and, if that still fails, move to a repair or clean reinstall path.- Restart Windows Update components again using the full rename sequence from an elevated Command Prompt:
Then restart the PC.net stop bits net stop wuauserv ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak net start bits net start wuauserv - Run Windows image and system file repair again in this order from Command Prompt > Run as administrator:
Expected result: DISM should report the restore operation completed successfully, and SFC should reach 100%.DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth sfc /scannow - Try the Windows Update troubleshooter once more, then check for updates:
- Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter
- Restart the device when it finishes.
- Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
- Temporarily remove or disable third-party antivirus or security software before retrying the update. This can block updates. If uninstalling, make sure the reinstall method and any product keys are available first.
- Perform a clean restart of Windows to reduce software conflicts, then retry Windows Update.
- If Windows Update still fails after months on version 1903, use the repair path supported in the troubleshooting guidance:
- Run
chkdsk /f C:from an elevated Command Prompt and restart when prompted. - If the issue continues, consider a clean installation of Windows 11 from the software download page if the device supports it, or a reinstall path for Windows.
- Run
The provided material does not include a specific fix for the hidden HP Inc Extension 1.0.0.5 entry itself. It does show that when Windows Update offers updates for products that are not installed or no longer applicable, one workaround is to install the update and then hide it so it is not shown again. If the HP extension never appears in Windows Update, the supported guidance in the available material is to continue with Windows Update repair steps rather than a separate hide action.
Also note: Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. The guidance recommends moving to Windows 11.
