A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Hi, Angela Li
Updating macOS alone may not restore editing, because the installed Office build or installation source may still be incompatible with the license. This commonly happens when a one-time-purchase version of Office was installed from the Mac App Store.
Here are some suggestions you can try:
Open Word, select Help > Check for Updates, and install all available Office updates. Then quit Word completely using Word > Quit Word and reopen it. Recent Mac editing restrictions require Office version 16.83 or later. Update Microsoft 365 or Office on macOS
If Office was purchased with a one-time payment, remove the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps downloaded from the Mac App Store. Those versions require a Microsoft 365 subscription. Reinstall Office using the installer downloaded directly from Microsoft instead. Office activation and the Mac App Store
For a one-time license that still will not activate, check Macintosh HD > Library > PrivilegedHelperTools. If the folder is empty or shows a red restriction symbol, reinstall Office because the required licensing helper may be missing.
