Hello!

I am having trouble with my laptop connecting to my capture card

I wish to stream my Nintendo Switch 2 to companions on Discord; however, even though all the wires should be in the proper place and my Switch 2 is streaming to my TV properly, I cannot find the capture card in OBS, nor do I think I see it in Device Manager. I have the HDMI Cord Plugged into the capture card and the TV, and the USB 3.0 cable plugged into the capture card and the Laptop's USB port, and the capture card is plugged into the Switch.

To be clear, I am using a Jsaux USB 3.0 HDMI Capture Card, and I am on an HP Envy x360 Laptop

    Welcome Khalid Sobajo,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Since the capture card does not appear in OBS and you do not see it in Device Manager, the first step is to determine whether Windows is detecting the device at all.

Before proceeding, could you please confirm:

    • Does the capture card appear under Cameras, Sound, video and game controllers, or Universal Serial Bus devices in Device Manager?
    • When you connect the capture card, do you hear the Windows USB connection sound?
    • Have you tested a different USB 3.0 port on the HP Envy x360?
    • Does the capture card work on another Windows PC?

In the meantime, please try these quick checks:

Option 1: Check for an unknown device

    • Press Windows + X > Device Manager
    • Look for any device with a yellow warning icon under Other devices or Universal Serial Bus controllers

Option 2: Try a direct USB 3.0 connection

    • Disconnect any USB hub, dock, or adapter.
    • Connect the capture card directly to a USB 3.0 port on the laptop.

Option 3: Test another USB cable (if detachable)

    • Some USB cables provide power but do not reliably transmit data.
    • If the cable can be removed, test with another known-good USB 3.0 data cable.
