    Hi James Ellison,

I'm sorry to hear that the recent Windows update appears to have affected both your CD/DVD drive and audio functionality.

In addition to the troubleshooting steps already provided, could you let me know:

    • Is the CD/DVD drive an internal drive or an external USB drive?
    • What is your laptop's make and model?
    • What Windows version and build are you running? (Press Win + R, type winver and share the results.)
    • Do the CD/DVD drive or audio devices appear in Device Manager, and if so, are there any warning icons or error codes shown?

If the CD/DVD drive is external, I would also suggest testing it with a different USB port and, if possible, another computer. This can help determine whether the issue is related to the drive itself or the recent Windows update.

Since your sound stopped working at the same time, it may also be worth checking whether other devices in Device Manager show warnings and whether updated audio, chipset or USB drivers are available from your laptop manufacturer's support website.

Please let me know the results and the information above and I'll be happy to help narrow down the cause further.
