How to verify the validity of my Microsoft tech, and how to confirm my case

To verify whether the person is genuinely from Microsoft and to confirm an active support case:

1. Check the sender’s email domain. Microsoft support uses these domains:
   • microsoft.com
   • microsoftsupport.com
   • mail.support.microsoft.com
   • office365support.com
   • techsupport.microsoft.com
   If the email comes from a different domain, it is likely phishing.
2. If the message is from the Microsoft account team, verify that the address uses @accountprotection.microsoft.com. That domain is used for Microsoft account notifications such as security codes and account update information.
3. Confirm that the message matches activity that belongs to the account. Check whether the email refers to an account that belongs to the account owner and whether a code or contact was actually requested.
4. If a text message was received, Microsoft may send genuine security texts from 69525 or from Microsoft. Genuine links in those texts begin with aka.ms.
5. To confirm the support case directly with Microsoft, use Microsoft Support:
   • Go to Contact Microsoft Support
   • Enter the problem and select Get Help
   • If needed, select Contact Support to be routed to the best support option
6. If the email looks suspicious, do not reply, click links, or open attachments.
