Repair Surface 5 Pro Model 1796 i7 Battery

I have already used the Microsoft Surface Diagnostic Tool and followed the recommended troubleshooting steps. I then selected “Get Help” through the Surface app, but I have not been able to connect with a real Microsoft support representative who can assist me with my issue.

My Surface Laptop 5 requires a battery replacement. I am currently studying as an Allied Health student and rely on this device day in and day out for my studies and clinical education. I regularly use it for accessing patient information, clinical documentation, clinical notes and record keeping, as well as other important academic and clinical responsibilities. Having a reliable device is therefore extremely important to me.

I would like the battery replacement to be performed exclusively by Microsoft or an officially Microsoft-authorized service provider. I have the greatest confidence in Microsoft's repair process, technicians, and use of genuine replacement parts, and I do not want the device repaired by an independent third-party service.

For privacy and security purposes, I have already formatted the Surface and removed my personal data from the device. I would also like to ensure that any remaining data on the device is completely and permanently destroyed as part of the service process, if applicable.

Could someone from Microsoft please assist me directly with arranging the out-of-warranty battery replacement and provide the cost, service options, and instructions for sending the device in? I would greatly appreciate being connected with a real Microsoft support representative who can help me resolve this issue.

I’d suggest contacting Microsoft directly through the Contact Us page: support.microsoft.com/contactus. Sign in with your Microsoft account, select Devices → Surface, and choose Chat or Request a call instead of going through the self-help options. That usually gives you a better chance of reaching a live support agent, whereas the Get Help app can sometimes keep sending you through automated troubleshooting.

If that doesn’t work, you can also try Microsoft’s Global Customer Service phone numbers and call them directly. Select Surface, then Home when prompted. The IVR may mention Business, but the line also handles Home users.

Another option is @MicrosoftHelps on X (Twitter). Their support team monitors the account, and they can sometimes connect you with a human agent when you’re stuck in the automated support loop.

Regarding data destruction: since you’ve already factory-reset the device and removed your personal data yourself, that is generally sufficient for Microsoft’s process. For a consumer out-of-warranty replacement, Microsoft normally doesn’t return the original device or provide a separate certificate of destruction. The device goes through Microsoft’s own refurbishment or disposal process.

If you specifically need an official certificate confirming data destruction, ask the support agent about the Business/Education repair process, as that may have different documentation options. Since you’re a student, it’s worth explaining your situation and asking whether they can provide any equivalent confirmation for your case.
