Data Missing

I logged into My Microsoft account today to download the browsing data and found that someone had downloaded it this morning at 3:20am central time. I live alone. I did download the data but there were days missing from it. I do I reclaim that data. I checked the log in and out but there was no one else. I do not understand this.

Thanks,

    Hi Vickie Posey,

I understand why seeing an unexpected download time and missing browsing data would be concerning. However, the 3:20 AM timestamp alone does not necessarily confirm that someone accessed your account and missing days do not always mean the data was manually deleted.

Microsoft Edge history may be stored locally on the device, synced across devices, or displayed separately on the Microsoft Privacy Dashboard. Browsing activity from InPrivate or Guest mode is not retained in the same way.

    Please try the following:

    • Open Microsoft Edge, enter edge://history/all in the address bar, and check whether the missing history is still stored locally.
    • If you use Edge on another device with the same Microsoft account, check the history there as well. Avoid clearing any additional browsing data while checking.
    • Review your Microsoft account recent activity and expand the entries around 3:20 AM to check the device, browser, location and IP address.
    • If you see activity that you do not recognize, select “This wasn’t me” where available, change your password, review your security information.
    • Run a full scan from Windows Security under Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Full scan.

Microsoft provides options to view or delete Edge browsing history, but there is no documented recovery option once the history has been deleted from both the account and synced devices. Checking the local history and any other synced devices would therefore be the best remaining option. You can learn more here: View and delete browser history in Microsoft Edge.

Also, could you clarify where you saw that the data was downloaded at 3:20 AM: on the Privacy Dashboard, in an email from Microsoft, or in the Downloads folder on your computer? Thank you so much for your understanding.
