It's been a persistent issue over many years that Edge opens on its own after computer comes out of sleep. I had Microsoft support to remove edge completely, yet the issue persists. Has anyone been able to resolve this? thanks.

Try these Edge settings first, since this behavior is commonly caused by Edge continuing background activity after the browser is closed:

    1. Open Microsoft Edge.
    2. Go to Settings and more (...) > Settings > System and performance.
    3. Turn off Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed.
    4. Also review open tabs in Settings and more (...) > More tools > Performance. If many tabs are listed, use the 3 dots next to a tab and choose Sleep tab or Close tab.

If Edge still opens by itself after sleep, work through these additional checks:

    1. Disable extensions temporarily
      • Remove or disable extensions that are not needed.
      • Restart Edge and test again.
    2. Make sure Edge is updated
      • Go to Settings and more > Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
      • Apply any available update.
    3. Repair Edge
      • Close Edge for all users.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Find Microsoft Edge and run Repair.
    4. Reset the Edge profile if needed
      • Create a new profile from edge://settings/profiles and test with that profile.
      • If the issue does not occur with the new profile, the original profile is likely corrupted.
    5. Reset Edge settings
      • In Edge, go to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values.
    6. Check for malware or security software interference
      • Run a malware scan.
      • If third-party antivirus or VPN software is installed, temporarily disable or uninstall it and test.

If the problem started after sleep and not during normal startup, the most relevant setting is Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed. That is the first setting to disable.
