    Hi Laura,

Thank you for taking the time to ask about this.

Unfortunately, if recording was not started during the meeting, Microsoft Teams cannot generate or recover a recording afterward. Being the meeting organizer or host does not automatically create a recording. A participant must manually start recording during the meeting by selecting More actions > Record and transcribe > Start recording, unless automatic recording was configured in advance.

If you believe the recording was started but has not appeared, I recommend checking the following locations:

    1. Go to Teams > Calendar, open the meeting from yesterday, and review the Recap tab.
    2. Open the meeting chat and look under the Shared tab for any recording files.
    3. For a standard scheduled meeting, check the organizer's OneDrive for Business > My files > Recordings folder.
    4. For a channel meeting, review the channel's Shared files area or the associated SharePoint site.

If the recording was started but is still unavailable, please contact your IT administrator. They can review your organization's recording settings, licensing requirements, and recording policies by using the Meeting Recording Support Diagnostic available in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

For additional guidance, please refer to Microsoft's documentation: Troubleshoot Meeting Recording Problems in Microsoft Teams.

However, if recording was never initiated during the meeting and no recording notification appeared, Teams does not provide a way to create or retrieve a recording retroactively.

I hope this information helps clarify the situation. Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you for your understanding, and wishing you a wonderful day ahead.

Yes—possibly, but only if the recording actually started and was saved or is still in temporary storage.

    Check in this order:

    1. In the meeting chat, look for a message confirming the recording started. If that message never appeared, the recording most likely did not start and can’t be recovered.
    2. Open the past meeting from the Teams calendar and check the meeting details or Recap for the recording.
    3. If it was a non-channel meeting, check the Recordings folder in the organizer’s OneDrive.
    4. If it was a channel meeting, check the channel Files tab > Recordings, or open it in SharePoint.
    5. If the recording link is missing from chat, scroll to the top of the chat and back down. In high-volume chats, this can restore the recording link.
    6. If the recording is not in OneDrive or SharePoint, check whether it was deleted, moved, expired, or is in the recycle bin.
    7. If Teams shows the recording in chat but says it failed to upload, it may still be in temporary storage for 21 days. In that case, retry uploading it to OneDrive or download it locally.

If none of those locations show the file, try recording another meeting to confirm whether the issue repeats. If it still fails, open a Microsoft Support service request. If an admin is available, the Missing Recording Diagnostic in the Microsoft 365 admin center can confirm whether the recording finished successfully and uploaded to OneDrive or SharePoint.
