    1

    Open the Settings App.

    Go to Accounts.

Select Access Work or School, is there is a work or school Email listed there?

    2

If there is no work or school account linked to your PC, close Edge

Click your Start Button, type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.

Click View and make sure 'Address Bar' is turned on.

Paste this into the Address Bar at the top and hit Enter.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft

In the left pane, if there is a sub folder of Microsoft named Edge, delete it

Paste this into the Address Bar at the top and hit Enter.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft

In the left pane, if there is a sub folder of Microsoft named Edge, delete it

Close the Registry Editor, then restart (not shut down) your PC to apply the change.

If Microsoft Edge says the Microsoft account is blocked by group policy, the next step is to check whether browser sign-in is disabled by policy and whether the device is still connected to a work or school organization.

    1. In Microsoft Edge, open edge://policy.
    2. Search for BrowserSignin.
      • 0 = browser sign-in is disabled.
      • 1 = browser sign-in is enabled.
      • 2 = users are required to sign in.
    3. If BrowserSignin is 0, browser sign-in is being blocked by policy.
      • If the PC is managed by a workplace or school, contact the IT administrator to change that policy.
    4. If this is a personal Windows device, check whether an old organization connection is still applying management:
      • Open Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
      • If an old workplace or school account is still connected and the device is no longer managed by that organization, select it, choose Disconnect, and restart Windows.
    5. After that, restart Microsoft Edge and try signing in again.

If sign-in still fails, clear cached sign-in data in Edge:

    1. Open edge://settings/privacy.
    2. Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear.
    3. Select:
      • Cookies and other site data
      • Cached images and files
    4. Set the time range to All time.
    5. Select Clear now.
    6. Restart Edge, then go to edge://settings/profiles and try signing in again.

Note: clearing cookies signs out of websites.

Also verify whether the Microsoft account itself can sign in on the web:

    • Personal account: go to https://account.microsoft.com
    • If the account is locked, use the security code flow there to unlock it.
    • If the account shows unusual activity or a temporary block, use the Sign-in Helper or follow the unblock flow for Outlook.com/Microsoft account.

If the account works on the web but not in Edge, the issue is local policy, cached credentials, or device management rather than the account password itself.
