REMOVING apps from the Microsoft Store library
I've seen numerous forum posts dating back to 2016 expressing the need for a feature that lets users delete previously purchased or downloaded apps from the Microsoft Store library. For clarity, this is not about uninstalling apps, but removing them from the library tab in the Microsoft Store.
There are many complaints about the absence of this feature, but want to emphasize one: it is impossible to remove these apps and their acquisition dates from being displayed to other or subsequent users of the same device if you use a local account. This app history, detailing every app I've installed and when, is permanently linked to my device. It persists through clean Windows reinstalls. It also persists across local user accounts on the same device. If I sell my computer and the buyer uses a local account, they can see which apps I installed and when.
The request to remove apps from the Microsoft Store library is not simply about housekeeping. It is essential to fulfilling Microsoft's claims of respecting our privacy and giving us control over our data. This feature has been requested for at least 10 years and its absence fundamentally compromises user privacy. It is unacceptable that no solution exists, especially since local account users are not warned that downloading apps creates a permanent record visible to all future users of the device.
I am requesting that Microsoft finally address this trivial ask, especially for those of us who do not use Microsoft accounts in connection with the Windows operating system. Microsoft has no need to keep a record of apps purchased by local account users, since all the apps we use are, by necessity, free.
