Since the backup files are still being created on the D: drive, File History itself appears to be working. The issue seems to be that the File History status and Previous Versions are not refreshing correctly after the updates.
Please try this first:
Control Panel → File History → Select drive → select your D: drive again → Save
This will re-register the backup drive and may refresh the File History database.
If the issue comes back, try rebuilding the File History configuration:
- Press Win + R, type services.msc
- Find File History Service (fhsvc) and stop it
- Delete this folder: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory
- Re-enable File History and select the backup drive again
Your test on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 suggests this may be related to a Windows update regression rather than User Shell Folders or OneDrive folder redirection changes.
