Azure Virtual Machines
Deploy a private, self-managed Elasticsearch cluster and Kibana on Azure virtual machines, configure trusted HTTPS, and verify cluster membership and replica allocation.
Learning objectives
By the end of this module, you're able to:
- Distinguish self-managed Azure VMs from Elastic-operated managed services.
- Deploy a private, three-node Elasticsearch cluster and enroll Kibana.
- Configure trusted HTTPS and verify cluster membership, document access, and replica allocation.
- Clean up lab resources without deleting shared infrastructure.
Prerequisites
Before starting this module, you need:
- An active Azure subscription, an approved budget, and permissions and quota for four VMs totaling eight vCPUs, managed disks, and networking resources
- Basic understanding of Elasticsearch and Kibana
- Familiarity with Azure virtual machines (VMs)
- Linux administration skills and an administrator workstation with SSH/SCP and SSH public-key authentication
- Approved routed private connectivity for both SSH and browser access, with a known administrator source IP range
- Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS x64 and Elastic 9.5.5 support confirmed against the current Elastic Support Matrix and version policy
