It's efficient to run some tasks simultaneously and in an automated manner. You can perform such tasks in the background and can also set a schedule when you want those tasks to run automatically. To run tasks in the background, two modes are supported:
- Manually triggered tasks are scheduled immediately via Job Queue Entries.
- Recurring tasks are scheduled in Job Queue Entries.
Run tasks in the background for a specific shop
- Choose the
icon, enter Shopify Shop, and choose the related link. - Select the shop for which you want to run synchronization in the background to open the Shopify Shop Card page.
- Turn on the Run Syncs in Background toggle.
When you start a supported synchronization action, Business Central creates a Job Queue Entry that starts immediately. A notification confirms that the job started, and you can continue working while it runs.
The Job Queue started notification includes the Show log info action. Use this action to open the related Job Queue Log Entries when they're available.
If the notification doesn't appear, you might have turned it off by choosing Don't show again. To restore it:
- In the upper-right corner, choose the Settings icon, and then choose My Settings.
- On the My Settings page, in the Notifications field, choose the Change when I receive notifications link.
- On the My Notifications page, select the Enabled checkbox for Shopify Background Sync Notification.
Notification settings apply only to your user. For more information, see Manage notifications.
To troubleshoot a synchronization action, turn off Run Syncs in Background before you run it. The action then shows progress and errors while it runs. For more information, see Run tasks in the foreground.

Note
Several tasks might update some elements. For example, when you import orders, depending on the setting on the Shopify Shop Card page, Business Central might also import and update customer and/or product data. To avoid conflicts, remember to use the same job queue category.
Use the Report Request Page action to define filters and parameters. For example, you can specify that you import orders only when their status is Fully Paid.
For report 30108, turn on the Only Sync Prices toggle to update prices without synchronizing products. Learn more at Sync prices to the Shopify products page.
For report 30102, you can limit the export to specific Shopify variant IDs or skip importing Shopify inventory before export. Learn more at Run a targeted inventory sync.
Other tasks that can be helpful to automate further processing of sales documents:
- Report 297 Batch Post Sales Invoices
- Report 296 Batch Post Sales Orders
You can use the Shopify Order No. field to identify sales documents that were imported from Shopify.
To learn more about posting sales orders in a batch, go to Create a job queue entry for batch posting of sales orders.
Check synchronization status
Search for the Job Queue Log Entries page to check the final status and error details for background synchronization tasks.
Depending on the type of synchronization, you can also review the Shopify Skipped Records, Shopify Bulk Operations, and Shopify Log Entries pages. For more information, see Troubleshooting the Shopify and Business Central synchronization.
Monitor Shopify activities in the Business Manager Role Center
On the Business Manager Role Center, the Shopify Activities part offers several cues that can help you quickly identify whether there are issues with Shopify Connector.
- Unmapped Customers: Shopify customer is imported, but isn't linked to a corresponding customer entry in Business Central.
- Unmapped Companies: Shopify company (B2B) is imported, but isn't linked to a corresponding customer entry in Business Central.
- Unmapped Products - Shopify product is imported, but isn't linked to a corresponding item entry in Business Central.
- Unprocessed Orders: Shopify orders are imported, but sales documents in Business Central weren't created, often because of unmapped products or customers.
- Unprocessed Shipments: Posted sales shipments originated from Shopify orders aren't synchronized with Shopify.
- Shipments Errors: Shopify Connector couldn't synchronize posted sales shipments with Shopify.
- Synchronization Errors: There are failed job queue entries related to synchronization with Shopify.
- Skipped Records: Records such as products, prices, customers, companies, catalogs, shipments, or invoices weren't exported because the connector identified data that Shopify would reject or that isn't valid for the operation. Open the cue to review the reason for each record.
- API Errors: Shopify API requests returned errors. Open the cue to review the related Shopify log entries.
- Unprocessed Order Updates: There are Shopify orders that were already processed in Business Central, but a new edition was received from Shopify. Because changes weren't synchronized to the processed order in Business Central, you must update the processed documents to match the received data from Shopify. To learn more, go to Effect of order editing.
Tip
Use the Set up cues action in the Shopify Activities part to define thresholds for cue styles. By default, the cue displays in yellow if the count is between one and five, and in red if count is five or higher.
