鹽是一組隨機的位元組，用來讓訊息的未經授權解密變得更困難。 字典攻擊是一種攻擊，攻擊者嘗試透過比較加密後的訊息與先前計算出的最可能金鑰的加密值來解密。 這種攻擊因為在密碼導出前加入了鹽（隨機位元組）而變得更加困難。
