Child account created but never signed in; no password or recovery options

I created two Microsoft child accounts and provided parental consent. The accounts have never been signed in or used. I was not given, or do not have, a working initial password. Password reset offers no accessible verification method, and the recovery form is rejected because there is no account activity. I am signed in as the parent and family organizer. Please investigate whether the child accounts were provisioned correctly and advise how initial access can be established.

    Keep in mind that these are user-to-user forums. Most of us no not work for Microsoft and no one here has access to any account other than their own. We're just trying to help each other.

    What happens when you try to log into one of the accounts by visiting https://account.microsoft.com/? Does it allow you to try to log in without a password? What process did you use to create the accounts? Please describe it in detail. Typically, to add an account to Microsoft Family, one needs to start by creating the account at https://signup.live.com/, which will require creating a password for the account, then adding the newly-created account to the family group.

    Thank you, Brian. I understand that a password must have been created.

    My concern is that both child accounts were created by me through the parental consent/family process, but I do not recall being prompted to enter or confirm a password that I could retain. Neither account has ever been signed in or used.

    Please do not treat this only as a standard password-recovery request. Could you please:

    1. verify whether the accounts were provisioned correctly;
    2. confirm whether a passwordless, temporary-password, or browser-generated-password flow could have been used;
    3. confirm whether there is any parent-assisted first-sign-in procedure;
    4. escalate the case to the Microsoft account provisioning or Family Safety team;
    5. advise what options exist if the accounts cannot be accessed, including whether they can be closed and replaced.

    I can provide the parent account, creation date, device used, screenshots of the parental consent page, and the rejected recovery request.

    Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

    If you created the accounts, you must have supplied their initial passwords. Use those. Accounts cannot be created with no passwords. The account recovery methods Microsoft supplies cannot be used for accounts that have never been used.
