My surface laptop 5 suddenly stopped turning on. It was low, then I plugged it in and everything was fine. I closed it and set it down on the table to go grab something for nothing more than 3 minutes, when I came back, I opened the computer and it was not turning on.

    Hi Oluwafunso Odetoye,

I understand how concerning this is, especially since the device was working normally just a few minutes earlier.

To help narrow this down further, could you confirm:

    • When you connect the charger, do you see any charging light on the connector?
    • Does the keyboard backlight, Caps Lock key, or screen show any sign of power when you press the Power button?
    • Have you tried a different power outlet or charger if one is available?

In the meantime, it sounds as though the Surface Laptop 5 may either be completely powered off or not waking from a suspended state. Please try the following:

    1. Connect the original Surface charger and confirm the charging LED is illuminated (if your charger model includes an LED).
    2. Press and hold the Power button continuously for 20 seconds, then release it.
    3. Wait about 10 seconds, then press the Power button once normally to see if the device starts.
    4. If nothing happens, disconnect all accessories (USB devices, docks, external displays) and try again while connected to power.

Microsoft's guidance for Surface devices that won't start can be found here: Surface won’t turn on or start.
