I understand how concerning this is, especially since the device was working normally just a few minutes earlier.
To help narrow this down further, could you confirm:
- When you connect the charger, do you see any charging light on the connector?
- Does the keyboard backlight, Caps Lock key, or screen show any sign of power when you press the Power button?
- Have you tried a different power outlet or charger if one is available?
In the meantime, it sounds as though the Surface Laptop 5 may either be completely powered off or not waking from a suspended state. Please try the following:
- Connect the original Surface charger and confirm the charging LED is illuminated (if your charger model includes an LED).
- Press and hold the Power button continuously for 20 seconds, then release it.
- Wait about 10 seconds, then press the Power button once normally to see if the device starts.
- If nothing happens, disconnect all accessories (USB devices, docks, external displays) and try again while connected to power.
Microsoft's guidance for Surface devices that won't start can be found here: Surface won’t turn on or start.
