Microsoft USB-C Travel Hub that appears to have suffered a hardware failure.

I've spent considerable time troubleshooting it and have isolated the problem to the hub itself.

The hub is being used with a Surface Pro for Business (2025 edition) running Windows 11.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I've already completed:

  1. Restarted the Surface multiple times.
  2. Tried Windows display detection and projection settings.
  3. Checked Device Manager for driver issues.
  4. Confirmed Windows detects the hub when connected.
  5. Verified that the hub appears in Device Manager as a "Generic USB SuperSpeed Hub".
  6. Reinstalled the hub through Device Manager.
  7. Checked Windows Update and Surface updates.
  8. Tested different HDMI cables and monitor inputs.
  9. Confirmed the monitor itself works.
  10. Confirmed direct USB-C to HDMI from the Surface works correctly.
  11. Confirmed Windows makes the USB connection sound when the hub is connected.
  12. Confirmed USB functions on the hub continue to work normally.
  13. Confirmed the issue is isolated to the HDMI output on the Travel Hub.
  14. When the hub is connected, Windows never detects a second display.

Based on this testing, the Surface, monitor, HDMI cable, Windows installation, USB-C port, and graphics subsystem all appear to be functioning normally. The failure seems limited to the HDMI functionality within the Microsoft USB-C Travel Hub itself.

    Hi michael ufondu,

Based on the extensive troubleshooting you've already completed, it appears the issue is isolated to the HDMI function of the Microsoft USB-C Travel Hub. Since the Surface detects the hub, the USB ports continue to work, the monitor and HDMI cable have been verified, and a direct USB-C to HDMI connection works normally, the problem does not appear to be related to Windows, display settings, or the Surface device itself.

As a final confirmation, try connecting the Travel Hub to another compatible PC and monitor:

    1. Connect the hub to a different device.
    2. Test the HDMI output with a known working monitor and cable.
    3. Check whether the display is detected.

If the HDMI output still fails while the other hub ports function normally, it would further indicate an issue specific to the hub hardware.

I understand this can be frustrating after spending so much time troubleshooting. However, the testing you've performed has been very thorough and has already ruled out most common causes.
