    Hi, Alan Jenner

This is usually an account or installation mismatch rather than a problem transferring the subscription itself.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

First, check Services & subscriptions using the Microsoft account that originally purchased Microsoft 365. If the subscription appears there, remove the Office apps copied from the old iMac and reinstall them using the Install button on that page.

After installation, open Word and sign in with that exact account. If another work, school, or personal account is already shown, sign out of it first.

If Microsoft 365 was purchased through Apple, also verify that the subscription is active under System Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions. The Office apps must be installed from the Mac App Store for an Apple-billed subscription.

If error 44 continues, please confirm the Microsoft 365 plan, macOS version, and whether it was purchased from Microsoft or Apple.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.
