how to use subscription for Mac

1. Open Word on the Mac.
2. When prompted, sign in with the Microsoft account that is associated with the Microsoft 365 subscription.
3. If Word is already open and editing a document, press Shift+Command+P, then tab to Sign in, account settings, menu button, press Spacebar, enter the account, and then enter the password.
4. After sign-in, Word should activate. Office stays activated as long as the account remains signed in.

If sign-in does not work:

1. Make sure the correct Microsoft account is being used. If needed, sign out and sign in again, and choose Sign in with another account.
2. Verify that the account actually has the license:
   • Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services.
   • Select Install Microsoft 365 or Office.
   • If a Microsoft 365 or Office license appears on the next page, that is the correct account to use in Word.
3. If Word says there is no license found, and the subscription is a work or school account, the license may not be assigned yet. In that case, contact the organization’s IT support.
4. If the Mac apps were downloaded from the Mac App Store, note that Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from the Mac App Store require a Microsoft 365 subscription to create and edit documents. A one-time Office license is not compatible with Mac App Store versions of the apps.
5. If the apps have not connected to the internet for at least 39 days, they can go into reduced functionality mode. Reconnect to the internet and sign in again to reactivate them.

If the subscription was purchased through Apple App Store, the install source should match the purchase source. Use the Mac App Store version of the apps for that subscription.
