I do not need a family subscription - I just use on my laptop

I do not need a family subscription. I require outlook for email, word and excel, (I could live without word and excel if I had to but would have to print some docs before no longer having access. I would need notes or something) and edge for browsing. I must reduce my costs. Is there a better option for me? Purchase or monthly subscription for single usages? Thank you.

    Hello

The Microsoft 365 personal is cheaper than the family plan if you are the single user.

Microsoft 365 Basic doesn't come with the desktop version of apps, but only 100GB of OneDrive storage.

Another option is to get the perpetual one-time purchased license like Office Home 2024, then you don't need to pay monthly or annually. One catch though, it doesn't come with classic Outlook, but new Outlook is free.

You can always just use the web version for free via www.office.com > click on the 9 dots and apps.

You can upload your Word file there and then print from there without the desktop app.

You can use Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneNote entirely for free through a web browser using a standard Microsoft account. More at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/free-office-online-for-the-web

You also may consider a Microsoft 365 Basic subscription for US$1.99 monthly [or US$19.99 if paid yearly]. It provides access to Office Online web apps which may be sufficient for your requirements.

Yes. For a single person, a lower-cost option than Family is usually a better fit.

    Based on the apps needed:

    1. If Outlook desktop is required
      • Microsoft 365 Personal is the single-user subscription option.
      • It includes desktop apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for PC or Mac.
      • It is for one person and can be used on devices signed in at the same time.
    2. If desktop Outlook is not required
      • The free web apps include only Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in a browser.
      • They do not include desktop apps.
      • Free access also includes 5 GB of OneDrive storage.
    3. If a one-time purchase is preferred instead of a subscription
      • Office 2024 is available as a one-time purchase for one computer.
      • It does not receive new features or upgrade rights to the next major release.
    4. If current costs must be reduced as much as possible
      • Move from Family to Personal if only one person uses the apps and Outlook desktop is still needed.
      • If only occasional document access is needed, print important files first, then use the free web versions of Word and Excel.
      • Edge is separate from Microsoft 365 and will continue to work for browsing.

    A practical choice:

    • Need Outlook desktop + lowest subscription cost for one user: Microsoft 365 Personal
    • Need no subscription and want installed Office apps on one laptop: Office 2024 one-time purchase
    • Need the cheapest option and can work in a browser: free Microsoft 365 web apps
