Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
A .pkg.part file is an incomplete download. It cannot be opened until the download finishes and becomes the full .pkg installer.
For this MacBook Pro, use these steps:
- Check that the internet connection is working on the Mac by opening a browser and loading
www.microsoft.com. - Delete the incomplete installer by dragging the
.pkg.partfile to Trash, then empty Trash. - Download the installer again using Safari.
- If the download gets stuck again, in Safari go to Preferences > Security and make sure Enable Javascript is selected.
- Then go to Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove all.
- Start the download again from Microsoft 365 apps and select the Install apps drop-down.
- Wait for the download to fully complete. The installer should be a
.pkgfile, not.pkg.part. The final file size should be around 1.5 GB. - After it finishes, move the
Microsoft Office installer.pkgfile from Downloads to the Desktop, then double-click it to launch.
If the installer downloads but still will not open:
- Delete the installer file and empty Trash.
- Download it again in Safari.
- If macOS shows an unidentified developer or verifying issue, select OK, wait 10 seconds, move the file to the desktop, then hold Control and select the file and choose Open.
After installation, the apps can be found in Launchpad or Finder > Applications > Microsoft.
