Set up a shared autonomous agent (GitHub Copilot) (preview)

[This article is prerelease documentation and is subject to change.]

When someone shares an autonomous agent with you, or you activate an agent for yourself, use the agent management page to connect required services with your own credentials, configure the trigger settings that the agent owner allows, and turn triggers on or off. You can't change the agent's instructions, tools, or other authoring settings.

Note

The harness used to build this agent uses usage-based billing. Using, building, testing, and evaluating agents might consume Copilot Credits. Learn more in Overview of usage-based billing.

Open the shared agent

The agent owner sends you an agent management link to the shared agent. Open the link to view the agent's details and the setup it requires.

The agent owner can update the agent, which might require you to connect or consent to the updates. Bookmark the agent management page to check the health of your agent.

Connect required services

An autonomous agent can't run until you connect every trigger, tool, and workflow that requires your credentials.

For your first set up:

  1. Open the agent management link, and then find the Set up button.
  2. Follow the guided experience. Sign in and provide the details required by the services.

You can manage connections outside of the guided experience too:

  1. Find the Connections list in the Overview tab.
  2. For each connection in the list:
    1. If a connection doesn't have authentication, select Connect, and then select a connection or create a new one.

Screenshot of the Create or pick connections dialog with the Microsoft Copilot Studio connection dropdown highlighted, showing Reconnect and Create new connection.

    2. If a connection is Disabled, enable it.

    3. Select Edit to change the parameters of a trigger, or Manage to change other connection details.

To pause a trigger without removing its configuration, turn the Enabled toggle off. Turn it on again when you want the trigger to run.

Apply agent updates

When the owner updates the shared agent, you might need to connect a new service or apply an updated connection configuration.

  1. On the agent management page, find the connection in the Connections table.
  2. Under Connection status, select Update.
  3. Compare Current configurations and Updated configurations.
  4. Confirm that the update doesn't replace configuration you need, and then select Save.

If the owner adds a new trigger, tool, or workflow, connect it before the updated agent can run for you.

Review agent activity

Use the Activity tab to review recent runs and identify failed runs. Contact the agent owner if you need a trigger option you can't edit changed or the agent requires a connection you can't create.
