代理者是一種能處理物件序列化需求的物件。 遠端代理處理源 MarshalByRefObject自 的物件的遠端序列化需求。 管理 RemotingSurrogateSelector 註冊的替代文件供 BinaryFormatter 和 SoapFormatter使用。

在序列化以進行遠端MarshalByRefObject存取時，遠端代理會建立包含啟動及與遠端物件通訊所需所有相關資訊的 。ObjRef 新建立 ObjRef 的檔案可被傳送至遠端地點，並用來建立代理伺服器。
